The History of Juicing

Norman Walker is one the pioneers of what we now call ‘juicing’.  Born in 1886, he was an early activist in what we now call the raw food and vegetarian movements. He believed passionately in the health benefits of consuming raw vegetable and fruit juices and was conscious of the negative effects of mass-produced foods, which were at the time becoming increasingly popular in North America and Europe.

In addition to opening one of America’s first juice bars in 1930, he published extensively and created dozens of juice recipes aimed at alleviating or treating specific ailments.  

Based on his design, the king of all juicers — the Norwalk Hydraulic Press — was developed. This juicer is still in production, and is the juicing machine used to press all BeJuices.
